If we could believe that we’re capable of sustaining this change, of conquering ourselves and living as a new man then we would have hope.
If we could believe that we’re worth the chance of living free from this addiction and the destruction it causes then we could have motivation.
If we believed we deserved better then maybe we could love ourselves enough to persevere.
I’m realizing that this has to be about me. I don’t want to be a porn addict or an alcoholic anymore but do I believe that I am capable of it, that I’m worth fighting for and that I deserve these outcomes? If not then I won’t go the distance because I don’t care about myself enough to put in the effort.
It sounds cliche but it often does with the truth- we need to love ourselves and treat ourselves like someone worth saving. I think that’s at the heart of my self destructive tendencies anyways.
