I'm beginning this war in a deep state of depression, without motivation or any kind of drive whatsoever. It's an interesting place to begin when this war is so synonymous with self-development and change. When I've struggled with depression in the past the first step for me is to let go of the negative habits, then a lot of the negative energy often dissipates by itself. So maybe this is a good place to be, or at least a good place to start. Letting go of PMO could be the first step I need to remove myself from this pit of depression that I've found myself in.
I find myself reflecting now on how PMO is like alcohol for me. I find alcohol sucks the life out of your future. If I go out my next day is bad. I think PMO is like alcohol where you literally suck the life out of your future. It’s like being on borrowed time always. I have kicked it previously for 3 weeks and seen so many benefits but keep going back to it. However it has been better, I used to rot in bed, but weeks where I abstained, I felt more energy and life just felt a bit better.
I’ve been depressed this whole year. I’ve just had to take things slowly day by day. I just try to build a base of good habits—working out, meditating, sleeping a good amount of hours, etc. It’s been really slow with many setbacks, but doing better than I was a couple of months ago. Hang in there!
@Xeo I managed to do some positive things today. I cleaned my house as I really hate clutter, I find the state of my house is often a reflection of my mind and so having a clear living space is a good first step. I signed up to a free 30 day trial of Kindle as I want to start reading more again and replace some of the Netflix and Youtube I've been watching a lot of recently. I also attended an appointment in town that I could have easily canceled, then as a treat I picked up some sushi on the way home. So pretty pleased with myself overall today.
@Nofaptastick those are some great habits. Those are habits I also have when my mind is in a slightly better place. I'm going to see if I can make it to the gym tomorrow, I want to get my exercise routine back. Glad to hear you're doing better recently!
I am also feeling the same way. Winning the war will help. It may not cure the depression but it will definitely cut it down. When I'm depressed I tend to also forget the positive habits like meditation, and listening to uplifting content, and spiritual activities which makes it worse. Watch motivational videos, meditate, pray, read books, read your Bible or other sacred scripture, exercise, talk with friends. I know that when you're depressed you don't feel like doing it so…….FORCE yourself to do it. Depression is a really bad place to be and ANY help will do. Even if it only knocks your depression down by one percentage point. It's not a place you want to stay. Living in the darkness of depression will figuratively and literally kill you. I know, I'm there with you. If I hadn't talked to a close friend recently I wouldn't even be here. If you have someone like that in your life just talk to them. Even if you want to crawl into a coffin and sleep forever MAKE yourself do the things you know are good for you and the depression should weaken. If you're really depressed just make it through today and don't worry about anything more than today. Worry about tomorrow when tomorrow comes. Treat depression like an enemy and attack it. And if it doesn't work so what? What have you got to lose? Good luck and may you survive this war and your life.
